The plans and D1.1 (Structural Welding Code – Steel) code book require WPS written procedures.

The following procedures are required for consistency and quality of welding.

This includes pre-qualified welding in Clause 5 of the 2020 D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Code Book.

The plans and code book, other than D1.1, require weld testing and written procedures.

Qualified welding by testing is per the (American Welding Society) AWS-B2.1 (Standard Welding Procedure).

Qualified welding by testing is also per the (American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler Pressure Vessel Code) ASME-BPVC IX.
