Epoxy Anchors San Diego

What it is: Hold-downs are all-thread seismic anchors usually 3/4″ diameter which are embedded into the concrete footing as determined by the design engineer usually 18″ and secured with epoxy resin. Anchor bolts are all-thread seismic anchors most for shear walls most commonly 5/8″ diameter embedded into the concrete slab/footing usually at 5 to 8″.

What it does: Hold-downs minimize the forces of lift during seismic wave energy. Anchor bolts reduce the effects of shear or lateral movement during the event of an earthquake.

What we do: Check the hammer drilled holes for the plan required depth, wire brush and air compressor cleaned, epoxy type, lot number, and expiration date. We will provide as needed; a CA State civil engineer stamped report combining inspections performed and all substantiating reports. If required by the structural engineer, we can provide an epoxy anchor bolt pull test to the values as determined by the engineer.

Pull test special inspection required for existing foundation hold-downs per California building code 1701.5
After-the-fact of hold-down anchors installed without special inspection resulted in 100 percent pull tests per structural engineer of record.

Reinforcing Steel Inspection

Re-bar are steel bars of various diameters and lengths which have steel ribs that add to the bonding value of concrete for adhesion and additional strength. Reinforcing steel and concrete are bonded together by a mechanical connection. This provides the tensile properties which adds another element of strength to the concrete.

Field Concrete Testing

The testing of concrete at the construction site is to sample the freshly mixed concrete, check for slump, temperature and cast a set of cylinders for compressive strength verification. Slump is a field test to measure water quantity mixed within the concrete. This is mainly for field-use measurement as a guide for the work-ability of concrete.

Post-Tension Concrete

Post-tension concrete cables are long steel cable ropes, usually 1/2″ in diameter within a plastic protective grease coated sheathing. Post-tension concrete cables are a group of cable tendons placed within the concrete providing compression strength laterally. Post-tension concrete cables which are placed within the concrete allows the concrete to be elevated as it has compressive lateral strength.
