Special Inspector San Diego

Metzger Testing & Inspection provides required special inspections for wind and seismic resistance in accordance with the plans, code and specifications. Our independent certified special inspectors provide structural inspection and construction materials testing services. Our engineers, inspectors, technicians observe, document, test and inspect during the process of building construction. The city approved plans from the structural engineer in addition to the contractor’s schedule provide the guidance for testing and inspection. We provide, as needed a CA state professional engineer or special inspector for the monitoring of historical structures and other existing buildings. We can third party monitor the shored structure during adjacent excavations.
A special inspector is a requirement generated by major cities including the City of San Diego which is also known as the City having authority. Special inspection serves the purpose of field inspection and on-site construction materials testing. Special inspection is an additional required third party inspection to the cities mechanical, electrical, plumbing and CA building code inspections.

Special inspections San Diego is best described as a qualified individual having experience and tested by the International Code Council for the area requiring inspections. In San Diego jurisdiction authority is provided for inspections within San Diego county.

The city of San Diego Development Services Department interviews inspectors, reviews their qualifications, verifies education and experience then accepts or denies their request to inspect within the county.

Other incorporated cities within the 4200 square miles of San Diego county recognize the city of San Diego approved special inspector card and will accept the inspector for special inspection within

their city after ‘check in’ with the department of development services. Mr. Douglas Metzger is an approved city of San Diego special inspector for the following:

  • Reinforced Concrete
  • Structural Steel and Welding
  • Spray Applied Fireproofing
  • Pre-stressed, Post-tensioned Concrete
  • Structural Masonry

Certificate  # 1142
Exp. Renew 12 / 2019

Contractors workmanship is monitored through special inspection periodic or continuous as required by Chapter 17 in the (CBC) California Building Code which is critical to the structural integrity of the building under construction.

Inspectors with the term ‘special’ expertise to inspect the in-progress construction of building materials and connections.

Poorly executed special inspection would be far damaging than having no inspection at all especially if the work shows in compliance.

Field Concrete Testing

The testing of concrete at the construction site is to sample the freshly mixed concrete, check for slump, temperature and cast a set of cylinders for compressive strength verification. Slump is a field test to measure water quantity mixed within the concrete. This is mainly for field-use measurement as a guide for the work-ability of concrete.
